Tofino lies on the Western coast of Vancouver island. It is a popular destination for culinary and outdoors experiences. It is BC’s surfing hotspot, and has been named one of the best surf towns in North America. From whales, to bears, wildlife is abundant, and wildlife viewing tours are a great way to spend a day. Take in the indigenous culture at Kwisitis Visitor Centre and the Eagle Aerie Gallery. On the way to Tofino, be sure to stop in Port Alberni and board the MV Frances Barkley for a scenic tour on a working 1950s era coastal freighter. If you’re not a fan of that, don’t worry, Port Alberni has a lot to offer, be sure to check out the restaurants and shops along The Harbour Quay. I’m not saying you should get off track on your road trip, but the Horne Lake Caves are a must see. They are definitely worth the detour. No matter where you go on the island, you’re sure to find something new (or old) and definitely something beautiful.
