This Canadian Lake Hides an Underwater Ghost Town

How lake Minnewanka went from getaway village to an iconic lake

This Canadian Lake Hides an Underwater Ghost Town

Lake Minnewanka in Alberta was once home to a bustling resort, but today its eerie landscape can only be seen by scuba divers. Nestled on the eastern side of Banff National Park, the area used to be a little less wet, and was referred to as Minnewanka Landing. The summer village of Minnewanka Landing was a bustling resort town to which Calgary residents would flock to go on lake cruises, stay in cabins, and have great getaways. After Calgary needed more power, a dam was erected and the lake flooded much of the area. Now the only way to see this summer resort is through scuba diving. The pristine waters make it a very popular site for local scuba clubs and tourists alike!
